I ask any patients who I speak to who believes they have received a Rejuvenate or ABG-II modular hip implant to get a blood test to check their chromium and cobalt. This blood test is important because the main reason why Stryker recalled the Rejuvenate and ABG-II modular hip implants is because they could be fretting and corroding. If your Stryker Rejuvenate or ABG-II modular hip implant is fretting or corroding, there will be cobalt and/or chromium in your blood stream.

How Do I Read the Results of My Cobalt and Chromium Blood Test?

A guide for interpreting your results:

  • Under 3 parts per billion – there are only trace amounts in your system. There is no immediate threat to you, but you should be monitoring this closely.
  • Between 3 parts per billion and 5 parts per billion - you are not at immediate risk, however it is showing that cobalt is steadily getting in your system.
  • Between 5 parts per billion and 7 parts per billion - you need to start taking this serious as you are getting to unsafe levels.
  • Over 7 parts per billion - go see a doctor right away! You are in a dangerous range.

It Is Important To Know If You Are Being Poisoned By Cobalt

It is important to know that you are being poisoned from cobalt for medical reasons. This can affect your entire body including your kidneys and liver. Medical professional need to know if there is Cobalt or Chromium in your system because it can impact their diagnosis and recommended treatment for you.
